SOYABEAN CASEIN DIGEST MEDIUM (USP/EP/BP/JP/IP)

Soyabean Casein Digest Medium (as per USP/EP/JP/BP) is a nutrient rich culture medium prepared by harmonised pharmacopoeial techniques for the growth of microorganisms and sterility testing of bacteria and moulds. It is also used in antimicrobial sensitivity testing by tube dilution method, microbiological research and as a diluent or suspending medium in preparation of samples and test strains.
The formulation contains pancreatic digest of casein and papaic digest of soybean meal and supplies amino acids, long chain peptides and other nutrients necessary for microbial growth. The natural sugars in soybeans help promote the growth of fastidious microorganisms. Dextrose is a fermentable carbon source and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate provides buffering capacity. Sodium chloride is used to maintain the osmotic balance of the medium.
The medium can also be used in the sample preparation when incubation should provide sufficient cell resuscitation without promoting microbial multiplication. For sterility testing and for determination of total aerobic microbial count during validation of microbiological testing methods.
