Chromogenic E.Coli Agar Plate Triple Pack

Chromogenic E. coli Agar Plate is a selective medium for the detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in foods without confirmation on membrane filtration or indole testing. The medium contains chromogenic substrate X-β-D-Glucuronidide which allows differentiation of the majority of E. coli isolates from other coliform bacteria through glucuronidase activity.
Tryptone is a source of nitrogenous and other essential nutrients for microbial growth, and bile salts are responsible for the selective nature of the medium. The majority of E. coli strains are known to produce the enzyme glucuronidase, that hydrolyses the substrate X-β-D-Glucuronide inside the bacterial cells.
The release of a chromophore in this reaction generates a typical bluish-green colour which helps in easy detection and enumeration of E. coli colonies. The medium is an excellent choice for routine microbiological analysis when quick and dependable confirmation of E. coli is needed. In addition to food testing, it may be used for the separation and identification of E. coli in water and clinical specimens.
