BUFFERED SODIUM CHLORIDE PEPTONE SOLUTION pH 7.0 (USP/EP/BP/JP/IP)

Buffered Sodium Chloride Peptone Solution pH 7.0 is used for the preparation of test suspensions in accordance with the harmonized methods of USP/EP/BP/JP/IP. It is specifically recommended for the preparation of stable suspensions of test microorganisms for the evaluation of growth-promoting and inhibitory properties of culture media in the microbiological examination of non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Laboratories may use standardized microbial suspensions to evaluate the suitability of microbiological testing procedures for the detection of specified microorganisms in the presence of a product. The solution may be also used to dilute or dissolve water soluble products and non-fatty products insoluble in water prior to microbiological testing.
Peptone is a meat or casein derivative that provides the nutrients while maintaining the viability of the microbial cells. Phosphate components provide buffering capacity and maintain the pH of suspension required. Sodium chloride preserves osmotic stability and cell integrity throughout the processing and handling of the cells. Polysorbates reduce surface tension and may also inactivate phenolic compounds if contained in the sample under examination.
