STERILE SALINE 0.85%

Sterile Saline 0.85% is an isotonic diluent to prepare bacterial cell suspensions at concentrations for use in various microbiological procedures. It can be used for dilution and washing of bacterial cells, microscopic observation, determination of cell numbers, analysis of genetic or metabolic properties and preparation of standardized inoculum.
It contains 0.85% sodium chloride to maintain the osmotic balance of the bacterial cell suspensions. The saline provides an isotonic environment that assists in preserving cell integrity and viability during routine sample and inoculum preparation. The simple composition results in minimal addition of other nutrients or components which may interfere with subsequent microbiological procedures.
Sterile Saline 0.85% is used when it is necessary to dilute bacterial cells in a controlled way prior to examination or testing. Also suitable for washing cells prior to further laboratory procedures and for preparing suspensions at the required microbial concentration. The resulting standard suspension provided reproducible conditions for testing as well as consistent inoculation.
