VIOLET RED BILE AGAR PLATE

Product Code TMP 023

  • Description

Violet Red Bile Agar Plate is widely applied in the selective isolation, detection and counting of coli-aerogenes bacteria, which is a reliable medium for food safety and water quality testing. Recommended by APHA for the testing of milk and milk products and is useful in detecting coliform contamination and in monitoring the hygiene of the product during routine microbiological analysis.
The medium is formulated to promote growth of enteric Gram-negative bacteria and inhibit the growth of unwanted Gram-positive organisms. The nutrients necessary for normal growth of bacteria are provided by the pancreatic digest of gelatin and yeast extract, facilitating the isolation of coliforms from diverse samples. The selective agents are bile salts and crystal violet, which inhibit most gram-positive bacteria. Neutral red is the pH indicator that allows glucose-fermenting organisms such as Escherichia coli to produce characteristic pink to red colonies. When enough acid is produced, bile salts precipitate around the colonies to form a characteristic pink halo that aids in visual identification. To maintain osmotic balance, sodium chloride is added and agar is added as a solidifying agent to provide a solid surface for the growth of colonies.
Violet Red Bile Agar Plate is widely used in food, dairy, beverage, water testing and quality control labs for reliable detection and enumeration of coliforms.
