UNIVERSAL TRANSPORT MEDIUM W/ GLASS BEADS (Single Viscose swab)

Universal Transport Medium with Glass Beads is a ready-to-use transport system for the collection and transport of clinical specimens containing viral agents, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas or ureaplasmas. It also aids in maintaining the viability of the microorganisms during transportation from the site of collection to the laboratory for testing, thereby facilitating their further recovery and examination.
The kit Includes a sterile viscose flocked specimen collection swab without breakpoint and a tube of Universal Transport Medium with glass beads. The flocked swab allows for efficient specimen collection and elution into the transport medium. The glass beads facilitate the release and dispersion of patient material and viral particles from the swab.
The medium is modified Hanks Balanced Salt Solution supplemented with bovine serum albumin, cysteine, gelatin, sucrose, and glutamic acid. The required pH is maintained by HEPES, and phenol red is used as a pH indicator.
Vancomycin, amphotericin B, and colistin prevent overgrowth of contaminant bacteria and yeasts. The isotonic composition is tailored to reduce toxicity to mammalian host cells and sucrose provides cryoprotective properties when specimens need to be frozen for long-term storage.
