Description
Soyabean Casein Digest Agar with Glycerol, Polysorbate 80 and Beta-Lactamase is designed for the isolation and count of micro-organisms from containers, equipment, surfaces, water-miscible cosmetics and clean room monitoring for use on clean rooms processing in beta-lactam antibiotics. The medium is especially useful in situations where residual disinfectants or antibiotic residues inhibit recovery of microorganisms.
The casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal supply the nitrogenous substance and other necessary factors of nutrition for microbial growth. Polysorbate 80 neutralizes residual disinfectants such as phenolic compounds, hexachlorophene and formalin, and also participates in the neutralization of ethanol in the presence of lecithin. Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds.
Beta-lactamase I and II deactivate beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins, cephems and penems, decrease their activity and enable the growth of resistant microorganisms already present in the environment. Glycerol is a moisture-retaining agent and an additional carbon source. The preparation is appropriate for routine use in environmental monitoring for the isolation of microorganisms.
Principle
Formulated for environmental monitoring and microbial enumeration on sanitized surfaces, including clean rooms used for beta-lactam antibiotic production.
