The test medium is Soyabean Casein Digest Agar (SCDA). This test medium is supplemented with lecithin and polysorbate 80 as neutralizers, these neutralizers will neutralise any residual disinfectant that may be present on the tested surfaces inhibiting growth. Lecithin neutralises quaternary ammonium compounds while Polysorbate 80 neutralises phenolic compounds, hexachlorophene, formalin, and alcohol-based disinfectants. This ensures desired microbial recovery.
Veg based peptones are used in the formulation, which supplies amino acids, vitamins and growth factors needed for growth of a wide variety of bacteria, yeast and moulds.
