Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate W/ Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 (90 mm) is a gamma-irradiated contact plate for environmental monitoring and surface sanitization evaluation. It is widely used in the laboratory to determine the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection procedures, by counting and detecting microorganisms on containers, equipment, work surfaces and water-miscible cosmetics. The ready-to-use plates are gamma irradiated to reduce the microbial load on the medium, Petri dishes and packaging materials, offering further assurance of product quality prior to use.
The medium contains enzymatic hydrolysate of casein and papaic digest of soyabean meal providing the essential amino acids, peptides, vitamins and other nutrients required for the recovery and growth of microbes. Sodium chloride is necessary to maintain osmotic balance and to provide favorable conditions for colony development. Lecithin and polysorbate 80 are critical here, as they are able to neutralize any residual disinfectants on the sampled surface. Lecithin inactivates quaternary ammonium compounds, while polysorbate 80 neutralizes phenolic disinfectants and hexachlorophene. They also act together to neutralize the effects of ethanol, enhancing the recovery of viable microorganisms.
