Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with Tween 80, Soya Lecithin & β-Lactamase Mixture is specially formulated for use in monitoring of environment, testing sterility of antibiotics and for the detection and count of micro-organisms in containers, on equipment surfaces and in water-miscible cosmetics. The medium may be used in applications with penicillins, the first to fourth generation cephalosporins, and penems where residual antibiotic could affect microorganism recovery.
Casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal supply the amino acids, long-chain peptides and other growth factors necessary for the growth of the organism, and sodium chloride assists in maintaining the osmotic balance. The β-lactamase complex hydrolyzes the β-lactam ring of the β-lactam antibiotics, leading to a loss of their antibacterial potency. Soya lecithin and Tween 80 serve as neutralizing agents for residual disinfectants.
Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds, while Tween 80 neutralizes phenolic disinfectants and hexachlorophene. Both of these agents also neutralize ethanol and minimize the inhibitory effects of such residues and hence favor the recovery of microorganisms. The ready-to-use plates are gamma irradiated within their packaging material to reduce the microbial load potentially present on the medium, dishes and packaging materials. Gamma irradiation is signaled by an orange to red color of the irradiation indicator strip on the inner label.

Formulated for environmental and antibiotic sterility testing, with neutralizers and β-lactamase to reduce the inhibitory effects of disinfectant and β-lactam antibiotic residues.
