Soyabean Casein Digest Agar with LTHTh is a selective culture medium for the detection and enumeration of micro-organisms from sanitised surfaces, water-insoluble and fatty products, water-miscible cosmetics, and products containing antimicrobial agents or preservatives. The balanced formulation permits a neutralisation of inhibitory substances that might interfere with a correct microbial detection, allowing the recovery of viable microorganisms. This makes it suitable for sanitation verification and microbiological quality testing.
The medium contains tryptone and soya peptone which provide the essential nitrogenous compounds and nutrients required for the growth of the microbes. An effective neutralising system is a combination of lecithin, polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), sodium thiosulphate and histidine. Lecithin and polysorbate 80 are neutralisers for quaternary ammonium compounds and parabens while Sodium thiosulphate is a neutraliser for mercurials, halogens and aldehydes. Histidine acts as a reducing agent, further improving the recovery of stressed microorganisms exposed to antimicrobial agents.
The plates are gamma irradiated within their packaging to reduce the microbial load on the medium, plates and packaging materials. This ensures consistent performance and reliable results for routine environmental monitoring and microbiological quality control.
