Soyabean Casein Digest Agar with Tween 80, Soya Lecithin & Beta-Lactamase is a selective culture medium, used in the detection and enumeration of microorganisms from containers, equipment, environmental surfaces and water-miscible cosmetic products. It also allows for environmental monitoring of cleanroom areas where β-lactam antibiotics are produced, recovering microorganisms that might otherwise remain inhibited by antibiotic residues.
It is prepared with casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal providing essential nitrogenous compounds and nutrients for the growth of microbes. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance of cells. Lecithin and Tween 80 are neutralisers to minimise the inhibitory effects of residual disinfectants. Lecithin neutralises quaternary ammonium compounds, while Tween 80 neutralises phenolic disinfectants and hexachlorophene. Together, they also help neutralize ethanol. Beta-lactamase inactivates β-lactam antibiotics, supporting the recovery of resistant microorganisms in monitored environments. Agar provides a firm surface for colony development.
The plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to reduce the microbial contamination of the medium as well as the plate and packaging materials. This controlled formulation supports consistent microbial recovery and dependable results during environmental monitoring and microbiological quality testing.
