Product Code TMP 050GT
Description
Soyabean Casein Digest Agar with Beta-Lactamase is a nutrient-rich culture medium for the growth and counting of many aerobic bacteria and fungi. It is intended for use in the recovery of microbes from surfaces of clean interest and environmental monitoring in cleanroom areas of production of beta-lactam antibiotics. The medium also assists in isolating resistant bacteria that may be present in these environments.
The casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soybean meal present in the composition offer nitrogenous compounds and other essential nutrients for the growth of the microbes. Sodium chloride is required for maintaining osmotic balance in the cell and Beta-Lactamase II protein product inactivates beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins, and penems. The medium differentiates by neutralizing the antibacterial effects of these residues, allowing the growth and recovery of microorganisms that might otherwise go undetected. Agar gives a solid surface on which colonies may be grown and counted.
The plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to reduce the microbial contamination of the medium as well as the plate and packaging materials. A color change from orange to red on the irradiation indicator strip verifies that the irradiation process has been carried out. This formulation allows consistent recovery of micro-organisms and reliable results when used for monitoring the environment and routine microbiological quality control.
