Soyabean Casein Digest Agar with Glycerol, Polysorbate 80, Soya Lecithin & Beta-Lactamase is a specialized culture medium for the growth of a variety of aerobic bacteria and fungi. It is intended for the detection and enumeration of micro-organisms from surfaces of sanitary importance. It supports environmental monitoring in clean rooms where ß-lactam antibiotics are produced. The medium promotes the recovery of microorganisms which could be inhibited by residual disinfectants or antibiotic residues.
It contains casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal which supply the essential nitrogenous compounds, amino acids and nutrients required for microbial growth. Sodium chloride is involved in osmotic balance of the cell . Glycerol is a carbon source and retains moisture. Soya lecithin and polysorbate 80 inactivate residual disinfectants such as quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolic disinfectants, hexachlorophene and ethanol. The mixed beta-lactamase preparation inactivates beta-lactam antibiotics, like penicillins, cephalosporins and penems, thus restoring the resistant microorganisms. Agar provides a stable surface for the development of colonies.
The plates are gamma irradiated within their packaging to reduce the microbial load on the medium, plates and packaging materials. This ensures consistent performance and reliable results for routine environmental monitoring and microbiological quality control.
