Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with 1% Glycerol, 0.5% Lecithin & 2% Polysorbate 80 is intended for the detection and enumeration of microorganisms from disinfected surfaces, water-insoluble and fatty products, cosmetics, and products containing antimicrobial agents or preservatives. It can be used to evaluate the efficiency of cleaning procedures and to check for the presence of survivors of microorganisms following treatment with residual disinfectant.
The tryptone and soya peptone in the medium provide indispensable nitrogenous material, amino acids, vitamins and other growth promoting substances for the growth of microorganisms. Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds and polysorbate 80 neutralizes phenolic disinfectants, hexachlorophene, formalin and, along with lecithin, ethanol. Glycerol serves as a carbon source and helps retain moisture, creating favourable conditions for microbial recovery and growth.
To further improve the reliability the plates are subjected to gamma irradiation in their packaging so as to reduce the microbial load of the medium, dishes and packaging materials. This nutrient rich formulation, in conjunction with the neutralization of disinfectants and production in a controlled environment, facilitates recovery of microbes and provides reliable results for routine environmental monitoring and quality control.
