Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with Glycerin & Polysorbate 80 is a selective culture medium for the detection of microbial contamination and the testing of sanitation procedures. It is useful for recovery and count of microorganisms from sanitized containers and equipment, along with environmental surfaces, and water-miscible cosmetic products. The medium is well adapted for use in testing phenol treated surfaces, as it enhances recovery of viable organisms which might not be detected.
The composition has casein enzyme hydrolysate and papaic digest of soybean meal which supplies essential nitrogenous substances and other nutrients for growth of microbes. Osmotic balance is maintained by sodium chloride and glycerin is a source of carbon and also it helps to lock moisture in the medium. Polysorbate 80 is an effective neutralizing agent for residual germicides including phenolic disinfectants and hexachlorophene and may contribute to the reduction of their inhibitory effect on the recovery of microbes. Agar provides a firm surface for consistent colony development.
For improved product quality the plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to reduce the microbial load on medium plates and packaging materials. This helps deliver consistent recovery of microorganisms and reliable results when performing routine environmental monitoring and quality control.
