Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with Polysorbate 80 is a general purpose culture medium suitable for the cultivation of a wide range of organisms, including the more fastidious ones such as Neisseria, Listeria, and Brucella. The medium is rich in nutrients and free of inhibitors to enable good growth of microbes, allowing for use in sterility testing, microbial count testing, and antimicrobial preservative efficacy testing. The medium is well established and meets USP standards for use in microbiological quality control applications.
The formulation is a mixture of tryptone and soya peptone offering a source of amino acids, peptides and other necessary nutrients for the cultivation of diverse microorganisms. Sodium chloride helps maintain osmotic balance, ensuring favourable growth conditions, while polysorbate 80 acts as a neutralizing agent that helps reduce the inhibitory effects of certain antimicrobial substances. When enriched with blood, this medium permits the development of well-defined haemolytic reactions, and thus it is also valuable in the investigation of haemolytic bacteria and for the growth of a number of fastidious organisms.
For better product quality, the plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to reduce the microbial load on the medium, plates, and packaging materials. This provides uniform performance, predictable microbial recovery and consistent results in routine testing of microbiological testing.
