SOYA CASEIN DIGEST MEDIUM W/ 0.5% SOYA LECITHIN & 5% POLYSORBATE 80

Soya Casein Digest Medium W/0.5% Soya Lecithin & 5% Polysorbate 80 is a pre-prepared liquid culture medium used for the sterility testing of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, biotechnology and medical device products and the testing of microbial contaminants in those products during production. The medium is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid in glass bottles to aid ease of use and reduce the likelihood of contamination.

The composition is derived from Soyabean Casein Digest Medium (SCDM), a nutrient medium which is nutritious and capable of supporting a wide spectrum of bacterial, yeasts and moulds. The enzymatic digests of soya-bean meal and casein supply amino acids, peptides, vitamins and other nutrients.

The medium was to have been added 0.5% soya lecithin and 5% polysorbate 80, to neutralize any antimicrobial residues or disinfectants present. Soya lecithin will neutralize the effects of a quaternary ammonium compound, while polysorbate 80 can neutralize phenolics, hexachlorophene and other inhibitory substances. This neutralization ability allows for proper recovery of micro organisms and assessment of sterility.

This medium is also used in the testing of the efficiency of cleaning and sanitizing procedures, validation of manufacturing process, environmental monitoring and sterility testing of pharmaceutical products and manufacturing equipment. This medium is suitable when residual disinfectants in the tested material may have inhibition effect.
