Sterility testing is based on the use of a culture medium which permits the recovery of a wide variety of Microorganisms, including those that may be stressed or present in low numbers. Soyabean Casein Digest Medium is a nutrient rich medium that allows growth and recovery of the most fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms and can be used as a general purpose medium for testing sterility.
The medium consists of vegetable hydrolysate and papaic digest of soybean, which provide amino acids, peptides, vitamins, minerals, and other essential growth factors. Glucose serves as a readily available energy source, while dipotassium phosphate helps maintain a stable pH and sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance. Provided as a gamma irradiated sterile powder, this medium is suitable for use in sterility testing, microbial limit testing, sample processing and diagnostic microbiology investigations. It is used as both diluent and as a recovery medium when the resuscitation of microorganisms is necessary without allowing excessive growth.
