SOYA CASEIN DIGEST AGAR (as per USP/IP)

Not all microorganisms need selective or differential media. A good reliable general purpose medium is required in most microbiology laboratories to isolate, preserve and examine a variety of organisms. Soyabean Casein Digest Agar is one of the most widely used media for this purpose, supporting the growth of both routine and fastidious microorganisms.
The content of tryptone and soya peptone in the formulation provides a source of amino acids, peptides, and other nutrients required for the growth of microorganisms. With the addition of blood, the medium can be used to detect haemolytic reactions and can also be used to grow fastidious microorganisms. Soyabean Casein Digest Agar is the medium of choice for microbial limit tests and sterility tests, as well as for antimicrobial agent effectiveness tests and routine culture work. Because there are no inhibitors added in the medium, it may be used for testing of antimicrobial agents or growth factors requirements. Its versatility and broad growth-supporting capability have made it a standard medium in pharmaceutical, clinical, research, and quality control laboratories.
