Product Code TMP 018
Description
Sheep Blood Agar Plate, Modified Plate is a nutrient-rich culture medium formulated for the isolation of fastidious bacteria and the clear observation of haemolytic reactions. Supplemented with 5% defibrinated sheep blood it supports the recovery of a wide range of clinically and environmentally important microorganisms and at the same time provides excellent differentiation based on haemolysis. The medium fulfills the requirements of ISO 21871:2006 and is particularly suitable for the detection and characterisation of Bacillus cereus.
Its carefully balanced formulation will favour healthy bacterial growth and will not mask haemolytic patterns. This makes it useful in the microbiology labs where the accurate colony morphology and haemolysis are important for identification. The combination of enzymatic digest of casein, enzymatic digest of soya and sodium chloride provide the nutrients and the osmotic conditions necessary for robust microbial growth. The added sheep blood improves the visibility of the alpha, beta and gamma haemolytic reactions, thus making it easy to differentiate bacterial isolates easily. This ready to use medium is suitable for clinical diagnostics, food microbiology and quality control applications and provides reliable performance for routine isolation, identification and haemolytic studies.
Principle
Designed to support the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms while enabling the observation of haemolytic reactions, this medium is widely used in clinical, food, and research laboratories. It promotes reliable recovery of organisms such as Bacillus cereus and helps differentiate bacteria based on their haemolytic activity on sheep blood.
