SELECTIVE E. COLI TEST KIT

Selective E. Coli Test Kit is developed for the rapid detection and confirmation of Escherichia coli in water samples using a chromogenic enzyme-substrate method. The assay is based on β-glucuronidase activity, an enzyme produced by the majority of Escherichia coli strains. The medium contains a chromogenic substrate, which upon enzymatic interaction with enzymes produces a unique blue colour, allowing an easy recognition of the E. coli. Other coliforms do not give the same reaction and they turn red which allows them to be differentiated clearly, no additional confirmation tests are needed. The enzymic hydrolysate of casein supplies the necessary nutrients for the growth of the bacteria and bile salts act as inhibitory agents to the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and make the medium selective.
