SABOURAUD DEXTROSE AGAR PLATE W/ CYCLOHEXIMIDE

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar Plate W/ Cycloheximide is a selective medium for the growth of yeasts, moulds and aciduric bacteria. It is mainly used to isolate pathogenic fungi associated with skin infection and also employed for testing the fungal and microbial content of cosmetic and food samples. The selectivity of the formulation enables the enhanced growth of clinically important fungi while suppressing various contaminant fungi.
The medium contains mycological peptone, which supplies the necessary nitrogenous compounds for fungal growth, while dextrose provides a rich energy source. Its high dextrose content and low pH favor the growth of fungi and inhibit most contaminant bacteria. Cycloheximide acts as an inhibitory agent to saprophytic fungi and permits the isolation of pathogenic fungi of clinical importance such as Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus fumigatus, and certain species of Candida such as Candida albicans and Candida krusei. In case of highly contaminated samples an additional inhibitor can be added to further inhibit bacterial growth.
Its selective nature of the medium enables satisfactory recovery of fungi and the quality of the medium is consistent and it can be relied upon for routine mycological examination and quality control testing.
