Product Code TMP 010GT
Description
Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar Plate helps in the selective recovery of yeasts and moulds, especially from specimens where bacterial contamination may interfere with fungal recovery. The addition of chloramphenicol inhibits growth of most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungal colonies can be observed with minimal disturbance. This enables the medium to be extremely valuable when isolating pathogenic fungi associated with skin, scalp and other superficial infections and also for contaminated clinical and environmental samples. To further ensure product quality, the prepared plates are gamma irradiated, reducing the microbial load on the medium, Petri dishes, and packaging materials before use.
The casein enzymic hydrolysate and peptic digest of animal tissue in the formulation supply the amino acids, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients necessary for fungal growth. Dextrose is the energy source promoting optimal colony growth and sporulation. The medium also has a naturally low pH which inhibits the growth of bacteria and is more selective for fungi. Agar creates a solid, stable surface for observing colony morphology and pigmentation, important characteristics in fungal identification.
Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar Plate is utilized in clinical microbiology, mycology laboratories, pharmaceutical quality control, veterinary diagnostics, and research laboratories for the isolation and cultivation of yeasts, moulds, and other medically important fungi.
