Product Code TRM 344
Description
Potato Dextrose Agar is a general purpose medium designed for the cultivation, isolation and enumeration of yeast and moulds from clinical, dairy and food samples. Recommended by APHA and FDA for the count of yeasts and moulds in the microbiological examination of food and dairy products. The medium also stimulates the development of clinically important fungi and can be used for the preservation of stock cultures of certain dermatophytes.
Potato infusion and dextrose supply nutrients needed for yeast and mould growth and the relatively low pH helps partially to inhibit accompanying bacterial flora. This medium is also useful for the induction of sporulation and for the differentiation of typical varieties of dermatophytes in terms of pigment production. Agar is the solidifying matrix needed for cultivation on plates. Its broad application across food, dairy and clinical microbiology makes it suitable for routine fungal isolation, enumeration and culture maintenance.
