p-DIMETHYL AMINO BENZALDEHYDE (Ehrlich Reagent), AR GRADE

p-Dimethyl Amino Benzaldehyde (Ehrlich Reagent), AR Grade is an organic compound containing both amine and aldehyde functional groups. It is a light yellowish crystalline powder with numerous applications in analytical reagent systems. It contains a highly reactive carbonyl group that reacts with electron-rich compounds. It reacts with indole moieties usually at the second position, but can also at other reactive positions like the third position or the nitrogen. This reaction results in the production of colored products which can be easily detected visually. Due to this reaction, the compound is utilized in Ehrlich’s reagent and in Kovac’s reagent for indole testing. The compound is also used in the determination of hydrazine as a chemical indicator. Since it yields visible reaction products, it is also used in qualitative analysis and biochemical testing procedures.
