N,N,N,N-TETRAMETHYL-p-PHENYLENEDIAMINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE, AR GRADE

Product Code 654

  • Description

N,N,N,N-Tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride (TMPD) is an aromatic chemical compound which is provided as a brown-grey crystalline powder. It is widely used as a reagent in biochemical and analytical applications. The compound can be easily oxidized by suitable oxidizing agents or enzymes. It is an electron donor and a reducing co-substrate of heme peroxidase enzymes during the reaction. This oxidation gives rise to a visible color change which helps indicate the presence or activity of particular enzymes. Because of this property, TMPD is employed in a variety of analytical methods where oxidation?reduction reactions are observed. It enables the precise detection and investigation of enzymatic or chemical reactions in the laboratory.
