Product Code TMP 005
Description
Mueller Hinton Agar is the globally accepted standard medium for antimicrobial susceptibility testing and is widely used in clinical, diagnostic, and research laboratories. It is recognized by CLSI, EUCAST, WHO and FDA guidelines and gives consistent and reproducible results for the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. It also supports the growth of Neisseria species and a wide range of non-fastidious bacterial pathogens and is an essential part of routine microbiology workflows.
The formulation is rigorously controlled to eliminate variables which could affect the results of the antibiotic susceptibility. Beef infusion and casein acid hydrolysate deliver necessary nutrition for bacteria to grow, and starch absorbs toxic metabolites that might affect antimicrobial activity. The medium is formulated to stringent specifications for calcium, magnesium, thymine and thymidine concentrations to achieve reliable and reproducible inhibition zones that correlate with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. These features assist laboratories in producing reliable susceptibility profiles from batch to batch, and under varying testing conditions.
