KF-STREPTOCOCCAL BROTH

Product Code TMA 007

  • Description

KF-Streptococcal Broth is a selective medium that allows recovery of faecal streptococci from water, food and environmental samples. It is commonly employed in microbiology laboratories as a differential medium for detecting faecal contamination and to evaluate hygienic quality in applications involving environment and food.
Through the unique combination of peptone and yeast extract this product delivers the required nutrients and growth factors in a single step to meet the demand of amino acids, vitamins, carbon source and nitrogen source for the growth of faecal streptococci. Lactose and maltose are utilized as fermentable sources of energy, which promotes the active metabolism of bacteria during incubation. Sodium azide is the selective agent that inhibits the growth of the majority Gram negative bacteria and permits the growth of streptococci with limited interference. The addition of 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) allows them to be visually distinguished, as active cells reduce the compound to insoluble red formazan, with the intensity of colour from pink to reddish.
KF-Streptococcal Broth is commonly employed in water quality monitoring, food safety testing, and environmental microbiology laboratories for the selective recovery of faecal streptococci. Its robust selectivity and differential nature allow for the accurate detection of microbes, making it an excellent media for routine quality control, as well as public health surveillance.
