Product Code 1915
Description
Indigo Carmine, AR Grade is a deep blue powder derived from indigo through sulfonation, a modification that makes the compound readily soluble in water. The dye is well known for its strong color intensity and multifunctional role in analytical and diagnostic applications. Also known as indigotin, Indigo Carmine has been used clinically for diagnostic purposes and is approved as a food colorant. In analytical chemistry, the compound is a redox indicator, and it is useful in those redox reactions in which a color change is used to monitor the progression of an oxidation-reduction reaction. The dye also serves as a pH indicator and is used as a microscopic stain in biological observations. In photometric procedures, Indigo Carmine can be used as a detector compound because of its measurable optical properties. Its diverse usage for staining, indication and analytical detection makes it an important reagent for controlled laboratory and research based applications.
