HYDROXY PROPYL METHYL CELLULOSE (HPMC) E 15 LV

Product Code 1912

  • Description

Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is a white to off-white powder with excellent film-forming, thickening, and stabilizing properties. As a viscoelastic polymer, it is frequently used in applications requiring controlled consistency and stability of solutions. The material is soluble in water and produces clear to slightly opalescent solutions which are useful for formulation purposes. HPMC is effective as an emulsifying agent, suspending agent and thickener and it can provide similar performance to animal gelatin in several preparation systems. The polymer is also used in the development of controlled-delivery medicaments where gradual release characteristics are important. Moreover, Hydroxy Propyl Cellulose is used as binder and excipient in the formulation process due to its excellent aqueous and organic solvent compatibility. Its lubricating and protective properties also support use as a topical ophthalmic protectant. The combination of water solubility, stability, and viscosity control renders HPMC a unique cellulose derivative in terms of formulation and processing.
