HALF FRASER BROTH

Half Fraser Broth is a ready-to-use selective enrichment medium designed for the enrichment and recovery of Listeria species from food, environmental and similar samples. The medium provides a harmonious blend of nutritional factors, including enzymatic digests, yeast extract and meat extract, which supports recovery and growth of stressed or low numbers of Listeria cells. Selective agents, including acriflavine and nalidixic acid, suppress the growth of competing bacteria and favour the growth of Listeria species during enrichment.

The medium is supplemented with esculin and ferric ammonium citrate for presumptive identification of Listeria. Listeria hydrolyzes esculin, which leads to the production of a typical medium blackening that can be used as a visual indication for growth. Other selective ingredients such as lithium chloride and sodium chloride also contribute to the selectivity by suppressing the growth of unwanted organisms. Provided as a pre-sterilized ready-to-use bag format, Half Fraser Broth eliminates media, removes the need for media preparation and offers a practical option for routine enrichment and testing of Listeria.
