H2S TEST MEDIUM

H₂S Test Medium is developed for the rapid detection of H₂S-producing bacteria, including Salmonella and Citrobacter freundii, in water samples. The medium provides a quick and straightforward testing method for a preliminary screening at the microbiological level and can be used for routine monitoring of water quality, environmental samples and in public health. The simple testing procedure also allows for convenient field testing and use by personnel with minimal laboratory training.
The medium is formulated with essential nutrients and nitrogen sources that promote the recovery and growth of target organisms. After dissolving the medium in the collected sample of water and incubating, those organisms that can produce hydrogen sulphide when reacting with the medium turn the solution from light amber to black. This visual colour change gives a presumptive indication of contamination with H₂S-producing bacteria and selects those samples which should be further investigated microbiologically.
