GLUTATHIONE (Oxidized)

Glutathione (Oxidized) is a white crystalline powder and an important biologically active substance. It is composed of two glutathione molecules linked by a disulfide bond. This form plays a role in redox balance and interconversion with its reduced counterpart. In biochemical applications, it is involved in a number of protein binding activities. Used in elution buffers during purification of GST (glutathione S-transferase)-fused proteins. During this process, it releases bound proteins from glutathione-agarose beads by competitive interaction. This characteristic is convenient in protein isolation and purification procedures which involve selective separation.
