FLUID THIOGLYCOLLATE MEDIUM W/ 0.5% SOYA LECITHIN & 4%TWEEN 80

Fluid Thioglycollate Medium with 0.5% Soya Lecithin and 4% Tween 80 is a sterility testing medium formulated in accordance with USP, EP, BP, and IP requirements. It is used for the cultivation of aerobic, anaerobic and microaerophilic organisms derived from pharmaceutical products, biologicals, and other test materials. It is suitable for the testing of clear, liquid samples and is considered reliable for use in sterility assurance and quality control applications.
Its balanced nutrients provide the necessary elements for microbial growth. Tryptone, yeast extract, and glucose provides amino acids, vitamins, nitrogen, and energy for the growth of microorganisms. Sodium thioglycollate and L-cystine reduce the redox potential, and facilitate anaerobic growth and also counteract the inhibitory effect of oxygen and certain preservatives. A little bit of agar stabilizes the low-redox environment and enhances both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria recovery. The addition of 0.5% soya lecithin and 4% Tween 80 to the base medium improves the performance of the medium by neutralizing residual disinfectants and preservatives which could have an inhibiting effect on microbial growth during testing.
