DILUENT TSB WITH CAP 4

Diluent TSB with Cap 4 is a nutrient-rich diluent intended for the total aerobic microbial count of water-soluble specimens, particularly pharmaceutical and cosmetic samples. Tryptone Soya Broth is recommended by various pharmacopoeias for sterility testing and microbial limit testing and provides suitable nutritional conditions for the recovery and cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms.
The amino acids, long-chain peptides and other nutrients essential for microbial growth are furnished together by the pancreatic digest of casein and papaic digest of soyabean meal. Dextrose is a carbohydrate source, while dibasic potassium phosphate is a buffering agent. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance of the medium. Added Cap 4 as a mixture of neutralisers and dispersants.
It is utilised for the dispersion of hydrophobic copolymers within samples and for the inactivation of any residual disinfectants that might inhibit microbial recovery. Thus this formulation allows for the detection and enumeration of microorganisms in samples containing hydrophobic materials or antimicrobial residues that would otherwise affect microbial counts. The medium is suitable for routine microbiological examination of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and other water-soluble samples requiring total aerobic microbial count.
