BHI AGAR W/ 3.0% AGAR (BRAIN HEART INFUSION AGAR WITH 3.0% AGAR)

BHI Agar is a nutritious culture medium designed for the growth of fastidious organisms and when a firm 3% agar base is needed. BHI Agar provides luxuriant growth of many organisms and is commonly used for the isolation of aerobic bacteria from clinical samples. Because of its enriched nature it can be used for routine microbiological work. BHI Agar is formulated from proteose peptone, brain and heart infusion solids, providing all vital nutrients including carbon, nitrogen, amino acids, vitamins and growth factors. Dextrose provides an energy source, while disodium hydrogen phosphate retains buffer capacity, and sodium chloride helps to maintain osmotic balance in the medium. BHI Agar may also be enriched with blood or selective agents for preparation of selective medium for isolation of specific organisms. Its firm gel consistency also facilitates observation of colony morphology, which makes BHI Agar a reliable medium for the growth, isolation and subsequent microbiological analysis of organisms.
