AURAMINE

Auramine is a yellow-colored powder commonly employed as a fluorescent stain in microbiology and diagnostic laboratories. It is an aniline dye with good staining properties and is used in fluorescence detection. Auramine is a disinfectant and antiseptic agent and it shows faint fluorescence when selectively bound with some proteins. It is commonly applied as a dry fluorescent dye for staining Mycobacteria in smears and tissue sections of human origin. The staining process is based on non-specific binding of fluorescent dye to the substrate, which allows bright visual observation under the fluorescence microscopy.
