Description
Ammonium Ceric Sulphate (Dihydrate), Extra Pure is an inorganic salt of cerium that exhibits a high oxidizing power. It is an orange crystalline powder. Since the compound contains the cerium ion in a high oxidation state it can easily initiate redox reactions. It can produce free radicals in appropriate systems. These radicals are used to initiate polymerisation reactions in specific formulations. Because of this behavior, it is used to initiate the radical polymerization of pectin-poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEGMA) supramolecular hydrogels. The compound is employed in the development of materials. When ammonium ceric sulphate is incorporated into starch and then carbonized, it forms cerium-dispersed carbon. This material acts as a sorbent and is used for the removal of excess fluoride from drinking water.
Principle
A strong oxidizing salt used in polymerization reactions and advanced material preparation.
