Description
Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with β-Lactamase Mixture is a general-purpose culture medium formulated for the cultivation and detection of a wide variety of microorganisms and for inactivation of penicillins, cephalosporins of the first, second, third and fourth generations, and penems. It is used for the detection and enumeration of microorganisms from surfaces of sanitary importance and for environmental monitoring of clean rooms, particularly facilities involved in the production of β-lactam antibiotics.
Casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soybean meal provide nitrogenous compounds and other essential nutrients required for microbial replication. Sodium chloride helps maintain cellular osmotic equilibrium. The β-lactamase mixture inactivates β-lactam antibiotics, reducing their antibacterial effect and enabling the recovery of resistant microorganisms present in clean room environments where β-lactam antibiotic production is carried out. Agar acts as the solidifying agent.
The ready-to-use plates are gamma irradiated within their packaging material to reduce the microbial load potentially present on the medium, dishes and packaging materials. The irradiation process is indicated by an orange to red colour of the irradiation indicator stripe on the inner label.
Principle
Intended for microbial cultivation and enumeration in environmental monitoring, with β-lactamase facilitating recovery in areas exposed to β-lactam antibiotics.
