MOLECULAR TRANSPORT MEDIUM (VIRAL LYSIS TRANSPORT MEDIUM)

Molecular Transport Medium is used for the safe collection, stabilisation, inactivation and transport of potentially infectious viral specimens from the collection site to the testing laboratory. It is especially applicable for testing the unprocessed nasal and throat swab samples suspected of infectious viruses.
This formulation inactivates viruses while preserving the integrity of released nucleic acids needed for molecular diagnostics, unlike conventional transport media that maintain viral viability. Its optimised formulation disrupts lipid membranes and damages proteins such as enzymes and nucleases, which helps to protect naked RNA and other genetic material inside the sample.
The medium makes specimens safer to handle at ambient temperature during transport, shipment and laboratory processing. It maintains the integrity of microbial DNA/RNA for accurate molecular detection and reduces the risk of handling potentially infectious samples.
