Product Code TMP 049GT
Description
Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate with Beta-Lactamase is a general purpose culture medium that supports the growth of a wide variety of micro-organisms but has the ability to inactivate beta-lactam antibiotics efficiently. Specifically designed for environmental monitoring and antibiotic sterility testing where residual beta-lactam antibiotics may interfere with accurate microbial recovery and detection.
The medium contains casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal which provide amino acids, peptides and other essential nutrients for vigorous microbial growth. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance and thus provides favourable conditions for microbial cultivation. The beta-lactamase enzyme incorporated in the test hydrolyses the beta-lactam ring of beta-lactam antibiotics, destroying their antibacterial activity and preventing them from inhibiting microbial growth. This ensures improved recovery of viable microorganisms, even in the presence of antibiotic residues.
The plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to minimize the microbial contamination on the surface of the medium, plates and packaging material, with irradiation being indicated by an orange-to-red indicator stripe on the inner label. This ensures consistent performance and reliable results for general environmental monitoring and microbiological quality assurance.
