Description
Ammonium Fluoride, Extra Pure is an inorganic compound composed of ammonium and fluoride ions. It is a moist white crystal and forms a clear, colorless solution in water. It releases fluoride ions in solution which can interact with metal ions and other reactive species. Such reactions are used to mask specific ions in analytical processes. This compound is used as a reagent in chemical analysis where selective reactions are needed. It is also used as a preservative in some processes such as treating wood and brewing. The material is not flammable but reacts with certain metals such as aluminum. As a fluoride salt, the material is as toxic at elevated exposure levels as other fluoride salts and is handled with care in both laboratory and industrial applications.
Principle
A fluoride salt used in chemical analysis, preservation processes, and as a masking agent.
