SODIUM FLUORIDE, AR GRADE

Product Code 706

  • Description

Sodium fluoride is a simple metallic halide composed of sodium and fluoride ions. It is obtained as a white fine powder and dissolves readily in water. The compound releases fluoride ions in solutions which can be involved in halogen-exchange reactions. Such reactions may be used to substitute certain halogen atoms into a chemical compound during manufacturing processes. The material also shows biological activity at controlled concentrations. Therefore, it is used as a preventive agent against dental caries and is included in toothpaste and drinking water fluoridation programs. Sodium fluoride is also added to blood in the laboratory to preserve glucose by inhibiting enzymatic glycolysis. The compound is also applied in some metallurgical operations where fluoride salts assist specific processing steps.
