Product Code TM 891
Description
Tryptone Water W/O Sodium Chloride is a simple nutrient medium used for the detection and differentiation of Vibrio species, particularly Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The medium is enriched with an enzymatic hydrolysate of casein providing amino acids, peptides and other nutrients essential for growth of the bacterium. Its formulation acts as a good salt tolerance base for Vibrio species and is commonly used in microbiological testing procedures.
The medium plays an important role in differentiating Vibrio species based on their sodium chloride requirements. Vibrio cholerae can grow in the medium without added sodium chloride, whereas Vibrio parahaemolyticus requires higher salt concentrations for growth. For this purpose, the medium may be supplemented with sodium chloride at specified concentrations during testing. Tryptone Water W/O Sodium Chloride is widely used in food, water, and environmental microbiology laboratories for the isolation, detection, and identification of clinically and environmentally significant Vibrio species.
