Product Code TR 117
Description
Sodium Hydroxide 1N is a ready-to-use alkaline solution widely used in analytical and molecular biology laboratories. Sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda, contains hydroxide ions, which are responsible for the basic nature of the solution.
It reacts with acids to form water and corresponding salts, useful in acid neutralisation and pH adjustment. It may also be diluted to provide solutions of lower concentrations for use in some laboratory procedures.
In molecular biology, 1N sodium hydroxide supports applications such as reagent preparation and nucleic acid procedures. The use of dilute sodium hydroxide solutions in RNA gel blot procedures for simultaneous transfer and fixation of RNA onto positively charged nylon membranes. Sodium hydroxide is also used in DNA sequencing workflows including in the Maxam-Gilbert sequencing method.
The product is stated to be normal at 0.995-1.005 N supporting analytical consistency. Its controlled concentration is useful in processes requiring reliable alkaline conditions.
Sodium hydroxide is a strong corrosive reagent and must be handled with appropriate laboratory safety precautions. Good storage and careful dilution are important to keep the quality of the solution and for safe use in the laboratory.
