SILICA GEL, GF 254

Silica Gel GF 254 is an amorphous, porous form of silicon dioxide composed of a tridimensional framework of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms. Its pore structure on the nanometer scale leads to a high surface area and good adsorption properties which are needed in applications such as thin layer chromatography. This grade is optimized for the preparation of TLC plates, and results in smooth layer formation and consistent separation results. The addition of a fluorescent indicator (254 nm) allows visualization of separated compounds under UV light, facilitating a precise qualitative examination. The controlled particle size distribution provides uniform coating and results in better resolution in the chromatographic development. Low residue on ignition indicates good purity and low levels of inorganic impurities, enabling analytically consistent results.
