MacCONKEY AGAR PLATE (W/ 0.15% BILE SALTS, CV and NaCl ) (Triple Pack)

MacConkey Agar Plate with 0.15% Bile Salts, Crystal Violet & NaCl is a selective and differential culture medium utilised for the isolation and differentiation of coliform organisms and other enteric Gram-negative bacteria. The medium is prepared using harmonised methods of USP, EP, BP, JP and IP and is recommended for microbial limit testing and is extensively used for recovery of Enterobacteriaceae from clinical, food, water, pharmaceutical and industrial samples.
The formulation contains pancreatic digest of gelatin, peptic digest of animal tissue and casein enzymic hydrolysate which provide essential nitrogen, vitamins and growth nutrients. Lactose monohydrate is the fermentable carbohydrate and neutral red is used as the pH indicator to differentiate lactose fermenters from non fermenters.
Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit the growth of Gram positive organisms, allowing the growth of Gram-negative enteric bacteria. The sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance and the agar provides a solid surface for colony growth. Lactose fermenting organisms produce pink to red colonies and non-lactose fermenters including Salmonella and Shigella are colourless and transparent.
The triple-pack, gamma-irradiated presentation helps maintain product quality by reducing the microbial load on the medium and packaging. This ensures consistent performance for routine microbiological testing and quality assurance.
