TM Media Folin & Wu’s Phosphate, Molybdate Solution is an analytical reagent developed for the colorimetric determination of blood glucose using the classical Folin-Wu method. The solution is added during the color development step after an alkaline copper reagent is mixed with the sample. The method depends upon the principle that the reducing sugars reduce cupric ions under alkaline conditions to cuprous ions.

In other words, during the oxidation of reducing sugars and other substances like glucose, they bring about the reduction of phosphomolybdic acid in the phosphomolybdate solution into the complex known as molybdenum blue.

The colour intensity produced is proportional to the amount of the reducing substance present. It is compared with that of a glucose standard by spectro photometer.
