Product Code TMP 032GT
Description
Columbia Agar Plate is a general-purpose high nutritious medium prepared for the selection and subculture of Clostridium species. Prepared according to USP, EP, BP, JP, and IP harmonized microbial limit testing methods, it facilitates the dependable identification of Clostridium sporogenes as well as other Clostridium species. The medium has been formulated to deliver a predictable recovery of microorganisms in day-to-day quality control and microbiological analysis.
Its balanced composition includes peptic digest of casein, pancreatic digest of heart, and peptic digest of meat, which provide necessary nitrogen, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and growth factors for intense microbial growth. Yeast extract provides B-complex vitamins to the medium and maize starch serves as a source of energy and as an absorbent of toxic metabolites that could inhibit growth of the microorganism. As sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance, agar is a solidifying agent that offers a consistent, non-inhibitory surface for growth of colonies.
The plates are gamma irradiated in their packaging to minimize the microbial load on the medium, plates and packaging materials, resulting in an improved quality of product and consistency. This nutrient-rich formulation and controlled manufacturing provide predictable result routine microbial quality assurance.
